Bylaws of the Central European Urological Society (CEUS)

Mission of the CEUS

The mission of the Central European Urological Society (CEUS) is to serve as a leading platform for state-of-the-art training and research in urology throughout Central Europe, to foster the development of empowered, next-generation urologists.

Operational Functions of the CEUS

  • The CEUS shall organize the Central European Meeting (CEM) annually.
  • The CEUS shall establish and maintain a close relationship with a peer-reviewed journal relevant to the field.
  • The CEUS shall maintain a website that serves as a comprehensive source of information regarding its activities, events, and initiatives.

Society Structure

Founding Member Countries

The founding member countries of the CEUS include Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

CEUS Board
  • The CEUS Board shall consist of seven members, with one representative from each of the seven member societies.
  • Board members are appointed by the CEUS and represent the national societies of the member countries.
  • Board member’s terms are five years and may be reappointed for consecutive terms.
  • The CEUS Board shall hold a minimum of one meeting per year. Decisions shall be made by a simple majority vote, defined as the highest number of votes cast for any one option, without requiring an absolute majority.
  • The functions of the CEUS Board members include:
    • Advising the General Secretary and the President,
    • Assisting in the organization of the CEM, particularly as member of the Scientific Committee,
    • Representing the CEUS within their respective national societies,
    • Representing their national societies within the CEM,
    • Voting on matters affecting the structure and bylaws of the CEUS, such as the admission of new national societies,
    • Serving as a liaison between the CEUS and the national societies of member countries, and
    • Promoting CEUS activities, including the CEM, within their respective countries and beyond.
General Secretary
  • The CEUS shall have one General Secretary, appointed by the CEUS Board members for a term of three years.
  • The General Secretary may be appointed for a maximum of two consecutive terms.
  • The General Secretary’s functions include:
  • Supporting the president in the organization of the CEM,
  • Ensuring the financial viability of the CEUS,
  • Supporting the website responsible member in maintaining the CEUS website,
  • Representing the CEUS, along with the President and all board members, in dealings with other organizations such as the EAU, SIU, AUA, and others,
  • Reporting annually to the CEUS Board on their activities,
  • Addressing any issues related to the CEUS bylaws by informing the Board and facilitating a vote.
President
  • The CEUS shall have one President, who is elected from among the CEUS Board members.
  • The President’s term shall be one year, starting at the end of the CEM, with a rotating appointment among the member countries. Each country shall appoint a President once within the first seven years, with the same order of countries being perpetuated.
  • The President may not serve as General Secretary concurrently.
  • The President’s functions include:
  • Assisting in the organization of the CEM as a member of the Scientific Committee,
  • Representing the CEUS alongside the General Secretary in engagements with other organizations,
  • Reporting annually to the CEUS Board on their activities,
  • Addressing any issues related to the CEUS bylaws by informing the Board and facilitating a vote.
Treasurer
  • The CEUS shall have one Treasurer, who rotates every three years in conjunction with the General Secretary.
  • The Treasurer is appointed by the General Secretary and serves under them to ensure the financial viability and growth of CEUS activities.
  • The Treasurer shall attend the annual Board meetings but does not have voting rights.
Young Innovators
  • The CEUS shall include seven Young Innovators, each representing one of the seven member countries.
  • Young Innovators are appointed by their respective national societies and serve a term of three years, with the first transfer occurring in 2023 and subsequent transfers every three years thereafter.
  • Young Innovators may not be appointed for consecutive terms and may not hold any other positions within the CEUS.
  • The functions of the Young Innovators include:
  • Assisting in the organization of the CEM, particularly as members of the Young Scientific Committee,
  • Creating content for the CEUS website,
  • Promoting CEUS activities, including the CEM and website, within their respective countries and beyond,
  • Selecting one representative to report annually to the CEUS Board on their activities.
Associate Editor
  • The CEUS shall have one Associate Editor, who is elected by the CEUS Board members for a term of three years.
  • The Associate Editor may not serve concurrently as General Secretary.
  • The Associate Editor’s functions include:
  • Representing the interests of the CEUS in its partner journal,
  • Developing a three-year plan for review articles and other publication activities for the CEUS,
  • Reporting annually to the CEUS Board on their activities.

Central European Meeting (CEM) Structure

Duration of the Meeting

The CEM shall be held over 1.5 days, commencing at 12:00 on Friday and concluding at 18:00 on Saturday.

Courses

Hands-on and other courses shall be conducted on Friday.

General Meeting

The General Meeting on Saturday shall include moderated poster sessions, standard lectures, point-counterpoint discussions, an EAU state-of-the-art lecture (in collaboration with the EAU), a CEUS state-of-the-art lecture (selected by the President), and a two-hour ESU course in collaboration with the ESU/EAU.

Gala Dinner

The Gala Dinner shall take place on Saturday evening at 19:30, with invitations extended to, at a minimum, the state-of-the-art speakers, CEUS Board members, the President, the General Secretary, the Treasurer, the Associate Editor, and the Young Innovators.

Poster Awards

The top three posters presented by residents shall receive free registration for the EAU Annual Meeting.

Country Competition Awards
  • The winning country in the competition shall receive a prize of €1000.
  • The second-place country shall receive €500.
  • The third-place country shall receive €300.
Financial Structure
  • The General Secretary and the Treasurer are jointly responsible for the finances of the CEM. No financial deficit shall be carried over between General Secretaries.
  • Registration fees:
    • €50 for residents, fellows, and researchers (status must be confirmed by an official letter from the department chair),
    • • €70 for physicians who have completed their training,
    • • €100 for companies not exhibiting,
    • • €0 for students, members of self-help groups, and members of the press (registration fee waived).
